On Friday night 4th April 2006 at Irwin's Corner House Bar Shanballymore GAA Club presented the hall of fame award to Jerry Sheedy

The annual event recognises outstanding service and is much coveted. It was particularly poignant for Jerry as his late father Jerry Snr is a past hall of fame recipient. The perpetual trophy and piece of crystal Jerry gets to keep was presented by Tim Fitzgibbon, Chairman of the club

In his address Tim said Jerry, who isn't a native of Shanballymore was and continued to be a tireless worker and a devoted clubman, Tim went on to outline Jerry's playing career which started at juvenile level in 1954 and reached a highpoint 11 years later when he lined out on the 1965 team that beat Hazelwood in the North Cork hurling final

This was to be his only North Cork medal and he officially hung up his boots in 1980. Since then Jerry has been actively involved with a variety of teams as well as helping out in the day to day

running of the club. The fine state of the pitch in Shanballymroe is due to his input and whatever needs to be done, Jerry is always a willing and able volunteer.

While the club is now on a strong footing Jerry Sheedy can recall leaner times when immigration threatened the club's existence. Shanballymore hurlers currently play in Junior A grade while their footballers compete at junior B level. As well as his other duties within the club Jerry is a also a selector with the junior hurlers.

A man who doesn't seek the limelight, Jerry said he was honoured to accept the same trophy his father received in 1978 and thanked everyone involved in organising the night. Trying to emulate the success Shanballymore had achieved in his fathers time wasn't easy but he and his comrades did their best Jerry said. He thanked his family for their support and reserved a special word of gratitude to his wife Margaret. Shanballymore is a great club to be in involved with and he expressed the hope that our junior hurlers with whom he's  a selector would do well in the coming years

Now a dyed in the wool Shanballymore man the story goes that Jerry's mother wanted him to play with Killavullen, however a wrong turn en route to the GAA field in Killavullen led him to Shanballymore and the rest as they ay is history!

The hall of fame ceremony was held in conjunction with the Cork GAA Clubs County Draw and draw co-ordinator Seamus Coughlan joined in congratulating Jerry on his achievement. Shanballymore GAA club are especially grateful to Paddy and Mary Irwin of the Corner House Bar for making their premises available for both functions.

Dave Curtin Presented Myles with the prestigious trophy. Mr O'Regan in his address was honoured to be awarded the hall of fame trophy. He spoke of the great spirit  and enthuasiasm within the club and the many victories that were recorded while he was with the side and since he retired
